Many people will find that the news of the death of the Queen triggers memories of a personal loss. The same memories might be triggered by seeing someone who looks like your loved one. Or it could be a song, a recipe, a particular scent. There is no roadmap for grief. You might be able to look through a hundred photos and feel OK and then you pass a café where you once shared a cuppa and the tears flow. This can be accompanied by happy memories or feelings of regret and ‘if only’, longing for just a moment longer to sort things out, to say something that you never had a chance to say.
Well, this might seem strange but it’s not too late. If you need to get something off your chest, write it down on paper as if you are writing a letter. You will find that it lifts a burden. It’s up to you what you do with the paper. I have helped clients to burn ‘letters’ that have contained their very private thoughts that nobody else knows about or could guess. I have witnessed the relief and lifting of shame and guilt that has accompanied this.
You have nothing to lose and you might find inner peace.
