Easter is a time of hope and renewed energy as the decay of winter passes and new life appears in the form of spring flowers, nesting birds and new born lambs.
A GP colleague of mine had a favourite saying which he loved to tell our patients. ‘Energy begets energy.’ He meant if you sit on your sofa feeling tired, you won’t get anything done. But if you get up and do something, however small, it will create energy to continue doing something else. Overall, the energy you have used will energise you. Try it!
One thing I love to ask clients to do if they are going through a time of low energy, is to stand up, stretch up as high as they can, smile broadly and say something positive to themselves. Something magical begins to happen when you apply energy to your life.
Or to put it another way, Smiling helps the release of three hormones, dopamine, endorphins and serotonin. These signal to your body that you’re happy, and in turn, you feel happier. This will make a difference to everyone around you. Spread the joy of spring!
