We live in age of food ordered and delivered to the door in 40 minutes, orders ready for in-store collection in three hours or next day delivery to your home address.
It can make us think that if we have to wait for or work at something, it’s not worth the trouble because the final outcome must be immediate.
Thankfully, influencers like Dr Michael Mosely, Dr Rangan Chaterjee and Dr Amir Khan are pushing back on this and encouraging us to just do something to get started.
I like the phrase ‘snack on exercise’. The idea of an hour a week in the gym might feel overwhelming but getting off the bus one stop early or parking somewhere that involves a longer walk to our destination, are all doable ‘snacks’ that done regularly, especially outdoors, might be even more beneficial than an hour a week in the gym.
Our goal might be eating more healthily. There’s no need to clear the pantry. Choose just one thing that would make a difference. It might be grilling or poaching instead of frying. Or swapping cream for yogurt or white wine for red. Once you get used to the change, add another ‘swap’. Over time these add up to a noticeable difference.
